When the clocks go back, most golfers put the clubs in the garage and spend March trying to get back to where they finished. It doesn't have to be that way. Here's what's on offer for indoor golf in Leicester this winter, whether you want to improve, practise or just play.
Why winter is the best time to improve
It sounds backwards, but winter is when the real work gets done. There's no medal on Saturday, so you can change something properly without worrying about your score. Indoors, every shot is measured, it's warm and dry, and the weather never cancels a session.
A change in your swing needs repetition. Ten sessions across five months, with practice time in between, is what actually moves a habit. Two lessons in April won't.
Winter golf lessons
All AS Golf lessons take place indoors at The Golf Lounge in Birstall, just north of Leicester. Every lesson uses the GC Hawk launch monitor, Swing Catalyst video, force plates and head tracking, so you see exactly what the club is doing and why.
The Winter Programme runs from November to March:
- 10 one-hour lessons with Andy Smith, PGA Professional
- 4 hours of simulator practice time
- Video analysis and written notes after every lesson
- Every date in the diary when you join
It's £780 in full, or £160 a month for five months.
Indoor practice
If you're already working on something, practice sessions on the simulator give you carry, spin, launch, face and path on every shot. That's far more useful than hitting balls into the dark at a range, because you can see whether the change is actually working.
Simulator hire for groups
Not every winter evening has to be about improvement. The Golf Lounge simulator runs GSPro, which has hundreds of courses to play. Bring up to 8 people, pick a course and play a full round, whatever the weather.
- 1 hour: £40
- 2 hours: £75
- 3 hours: £110
- 4 hours: £140
There's one simulator bay, so when you book, the studio is yours. It works well for birthdays, work socials and society warm-ups.
Gift ideas for golfers
If you're buying for a golfer this Christmas, AS Golf gift vouchers can be used for lessons, fitting or simulator hire. They're emailed straight after you buy.
